The most important thing to me is knowing every day, by the end of the day, I did everything in my power to make sure the people we support are happy, healthy, and given the best supports out there.

Shayne Novella – ALSO Residential Manager

Personalized Supports and Living Independently

This service provides a wrap-around approach to a person’s unique needs. Whether this is assistance with medication management, personal assistance, medical support care and health services, or behavioral health, we work closely to honor the personal and individual needs of each person. These developmental disabilities services are generally tailored to the specific needs of those we support, but may include opportunities for living with housemates full time. Residential services are an excellent avenue for developing lifelong connections with others living together. Of course, all of this is just what happens at home; connection to one’s community is essential to a full and meaningful life. Those supported in Residential are encouraged to spread their wings and get actively involved in their world throughout daily life.

We Believe in Choice

Working together to develop personalized supports, we ensure the people with intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities that we support live their lives as fully and independently as possible. Join us in our pursuit that everyone with disabilities successfully makes their own choices and advocates for themselves, helping to guide in identifying and pursuing one’s own goals, passions, and aspirations.

Meet Lara

“Hi, my name is Lara. My life was turned upside down when I was working as a cashier when my vision stopped working. I had cranial tension on my brain, and after multiple operations, I lost my eyesight. Thru hard work and motivation from my family and friends, I have become more independent and retaking control of my life. I love going for walks around town, hiking, listening to music, and being around cats and dogs. During COVID, I worked with my ALSO support staff and roommate on sewing masks and working out. We’re learning how to implement voice-activated technology to control our lighting, blinds, air conditioning, tv, and music. I’m working on my current goals of becoming more independent and getting a ‘seeing eye dog.’”

How Residential Services Works

Residential services utilize person-centered practices and work collaboratively as a team with individuals, families, and ALSO’s Advocates. We value this collaboration and recognize that family support is important. Whether it’s shopping for groceries, celebrating birthdays, or Friday night movie night, ALSO works closely with the individuals we support in every part of their home life and helps improve quality of life. Our amazing staff professionals successfully provide disability assistance and support services to our adult residents with disabilities. We support people by ensuring community involvement and encouraging the development of independence skills in daily life through our residential services.
