Residential & Housing Services

Why Personalized Support Matters

This service provides a wrap-around approach to a person’s unique needs. Whether this is assistance with medication management, personal assistance, medical support care and health services or behavioral health, we work closely to honor the personal and individual needs of each person. These developmental disabilities services are generally tailored to the specific needs of those we support, but may include opportunities for living with housemates full time. Residential services are an excellent avenue for developing lifelong connections with others living together. Of course, all of this is just what happens at home; connection to one’s community is essential to a full and meaningful life. Those supported in Residential are encouraged to spread their wings and get actively involved in their world throughout daily life.

We Believe in Choice

Working together to develop personalized supports, we ensure the people with intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities that we support live their lives as fully and independently as possible. Join us in our pursuit that everyone with disabilities successfully makes their own choices and advocates for themselves, helping to guide in identifying and pursuing one’s own goals, passions and aspirations.

How Residential Services Works

Residential services utilize person-centered practices and work collaboratively as a team with individuals, families and ALSO’s Advocates. We value this collaboration and recognize that family support is important. Whether it’s shopping for groceries, celebrating birthdays or Friday movie nights, ALSO works closely with the individuals we support in every part of their home life and helps improve quality of life. Our amazing staff professionals successfully provide disability assistance and support services to our adult residents with disabilities. We support people by ensuring community involvement and encouraging the development of independence skills in daily life through our residential services.

We’re all in this together.

Meet Lara

Hometown: Bend, OR
Favorite activity: Training
Favorite hobby: Sports

“Hi, my name is Lara. My life was turned upside down when I was working as a cashier when my vision stopped working. I had cranial tension on my brain, and after multiple operations, I lost my eyesight. Thru hard work and motivation from my family and friends, I have become more independent and retaking control of my life. I love going for walks around town, hiking, listening to music, and being around cats and dogs. During COVID, I worked with my ALSO support staff and roommate on sewing masks and working out. We’re learning how to implement voice-activated technology to control our lighting, blinds, air conditioning, TV, and music. I’m working on my current goals of becoming more independent and getting a ‘seeing eye dog.’”

Meet Holly

Hometown: Bend, OR
Favorite activity: Hiking
Favorite hobby: Painting

Holly is known as one of the busiest, friendliest people you’ll ever meet. Holly works two jobs, hikes, attends local events, and takes every exercise class you could imagine. She can’t walk down the street without someone running up with a smile to greet her. She’ll always know their name and explain to you how they are her friend. Holly is an example of ALSO services and how we work together to build person-centered supports to help the people we support holistically thrive in their community.

The most important thing to me is knowing every day, by the end of the day, I did everything in my power to make sure the people we support are happy, healthy, and given the best supports out there.

What makes ALSO’s Residential Care different from other options?

ALSO emphasizes choice, independence, and community involvement. The goal is not just to provide a safe place to live, but to help people thrive by building social connections, pursuing personal goals, and being actively engaged in their world. These values are rooted in ALSO’s mission and Heart Work philosophy.

What does a typical day look like for someone in Residential Care?

Every day is different because plans are individualized. Residents may participate in community activities, spend time with housemates, pursue personal interests, practice life skills, or receive support with routines and health needs, which are all part of ALSO’s broader Developmental Disability Services and always guided by each person’s goals.

Where are ALSO’s Residential Care homes located?

ALSO provides services across nine counties in Oregon, with homes and supports tailored to regional needs. Contact ALSO to inquire about openings.

Do I get to pick where I go/what roommates I have?

It depends on availability, but we do our best to match individuals with best home environment, which includes compatibility with potential roommates. If we don’t have a lot of openings in an area, the options are definitely limited but they’re not required to go to a program they don’t want to and can inquire with residential services from other providers if we can’t provide what they need.
