In accordance with Oregon law, ALSO publishes quarterly reports on the use of protective physical interventions within its Children’s Services programs. ALSO team members are trained in the safe and appropriate use of protective physical intervention through the Oregon Intervention System (OIS).
Protective physical interventions (also referred to as physical restraints) are used only as a last resort and solely when there is an imminent risk of serious bodily injury to the child or others and less restrictive interventions would not effectively reduce that risk. These interventions are never used for discipline or convenience.
The safety and well-being of children is our top priority. ALSO is committed to supporting children in ways that prioritize safety, dignity, and respect. Our practices are grounded in person-centered, trauma-informed approaches and emphasize the use of the least restrictive supports possible.
Staff receive specialized training focused on prevention, de-escalation, and safety. Ongoing training, oversight, and review are in place to ensure compliance with applicable laws and to support continuous improvement of our services.
Oregon law requires providers to publicly share information regarding the use of protective physical interventions. ALSO shares this information to promote transparency and accountability and to help families and the community understand how safety is maintained.
